thanks!

Thank you to those great gals who were ready willing and able to bring us meds this morning!

I found ONE vial at 6 am in the junk drawer of all places! It got us over the hump until the pharmacy opened this morning.

But get this... Albuterol rescue inhalers are NO MORE - deemed environmentally unfriendly and discontinued. I thought this was some kind of joke, but not so. The replacement meds are twice as much and half as effective. I am ticked.

I need to get going but this is really upsetting.

  1. Hi Robin,

I heard about this happening a long time ago and just read an article about it in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch last week. Apparently, the powers that be have decided (probably the EPA) that the CFCs in the inhalers is causing environmental problems. Ummm...okay. So the new ones are "green" and are the only kind allowed to be manufactured and sold. Instead of the CFC's, it uses a different propellant that is more eco-friendly.

The studies have show that they are supposed to be just as effective, even though the user may not perceive them to be because of the difference in the dispersal of the meds. Also, the inhalers need to be cleaned more often because they will gunk up easier. I haven't gotten one of the new ones yet for Connor, so I don't know about the efficacy. You noticed a difference?

I heard that they were extremely expensive and that's not right. How are the elderly or low income people supposed to pay for that if they have no insurance coverage? It makes me sad and angry to think that there may be children out there who can't get their meds because their parents now can't afford it. I sincerely hope the government has thought of that and will be subsidizing them for those certain groups of people in need.

Anyway, enough of my ramble. I pray that everyone is breathing easier this afternoon. I know how hard it is to have a child with asthma. (((HUGS)))
